Logan McKenna is back, in an intricate mystery filled with intrigue, multiple motives, an intertwined cast of characters, and (of course) lots of great food. Author Valerie Davisson brings back many of the familiar side characters that make this series so memorable and fun, along with a whole new troop of heroes and villains – but can you figure out which are which?
The story begins with a murder aboard a fishing boat – or was it? A second murder at sea jolts the small Oregon coastal town near where Logan lives. She and her cohorts are drawn in because one of their friends is accused of the second murder. He swears he’s innocent, but incriminating evidence says otherwise. After he is arrested and faces years in prison, Logan and her posse are determined to prove his innocence.
Meanwhile, an immigrant family is in peril when the father of a young girl Logan is teaching goes missing. When circumstances point to potential foul play, the family can’t seek official help because of their undocumented status. When Logan gets involved, things get complicated. Without spoiling all the surprises, suffice to say that things are not always what they seem to be, and Logan may have to put herself in danger to prove her friend’s innocence.
This is a tight, complex story with characters you can root for – and against. Logan finds herself deep in the soup because she cares about people and wants to help. Her sense of justice drives the story forward and keeps the reader fully engaged through the break-neck conclusion. You don’t need to have read the earlier books in the series to enjoy this story, but you’ll certainly want to go back and learn about all the exciting events in Logan’s life that come together in Lost and Found. Sure to please readers who love a solid mystery, realistic characters, and the rich setting of the Oregon coast. Bon appetite!
I received a copy of this book from the author and am providing my honest assessment.
