Fool Me Twice is the short story where NYPD Homicide detective Mike Stoneman was first seen in print in 2012. The story won first prize in the writing competition sponsored by the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association. The topic had to be “legal” or “crime.” I went with crime.

In the story, Mike investigates the death of a wealthy stock broker, who drowned in his own swimming pool. The only witness was his daughter, a pampered but frightened sixteen-year-old. Mike listens to her story and determines that the death was accidental. Then, years later, another body is dragged out of that same pool. Will Mike believe the older social media darling now? Or, was this one murder?
