Holy Parrot reminds me a little bit of Stranger in a Strange Land, where an exotic prophet appears out of nowhere to confront established dogma with new and wonderful ideas. Angel A’s novel is not on the level of the Robert Heinlein classic, but I enjoyed this read and recommend it, particularly for readers who … More Holy Parrot, by Angel A [Review]

“A solid start to a new series, with some typical growing pains from a new novelist” Maniacal, from 2016, is the first book in C.M. Sutter’s Jade Monroe crime series. Sutter has gone on to write many more very successful novels over four different series. This one is offered free as an entry into the … More Maniacal, by C. M. Sutter [Review]

“Too much hang, not enough cliff.” This story is pretty simple. Tim has been in the witness protection program for six years after testifying against a mob boss. The mob kills Tim’s uncle, who was his surrogate father, in order to flush Tim out of hiding. Tim takes the bait, leaves the protection of his … More The Subway, by Dustin Stevens [Review]

“I understand how somebody would think that this would make a great movie – if you fix all the problems with the novel.” This was a disappointing read, and only partly because of the hype over the book (which is now an HBOMax mini-series). The story has a great beginning and an ending full of … More The Flight Attendant, by Chris Bohjalian [Review]

“A complex plot that will captivate readers and keep them riveted to the very end.” Victoria Weisfeld lives in my town, and after reading a local newspaper article about her first novel, I had to give it a read. I enjoyed this book, which has a complex plot that will captivate readers and keep them … More Architect of Courage, by Victoria Weisfeld [Review]

“A pleasant and engaging read that I highly recommend for sci-fi and adventure fiction fans.” This is my first foray into the works of John B. Rosenman, who creates fascinating characters and intricate plots, resulting in an enjoyable and captivating novel. The intriguing opening of Crash finds the protagonist badly injured after his spacecraft crashes … More Crash (Inspector of the Cross, book 6), by John B. Rosenman [Review]

“A comfortable attempt to address a real-world issue, but without much thrill or mystery.” Author David Crosby’s Will Harper series is very successful and includes eight novels. I picked up a box set of the first three books in the series to see what the fuss is about. I ended up reading book #2, Guilty … More Guilty Money, by David Crosby (A Will Harper Thriller/Mystery) [Review]

“It drew me in and turned me on. A very clever, original, and exquisitely erotic story.” I don’t read a lot of romance, and was not even aware that Amazon has a category for “Paranormal Witches & Wizards Romance,” but No Broomsticks Allowed drew me in and turned me on. A very clever, original, and … More No Broomsticks Allowed, by Heather Harrison [Review]

A complex plot with a deliciously twisty ending Willow Rose weaves a complex plot of murder, abuse, and vigilante justice. In the beginning, the seemingly unrelated story threads are hard to follow, but stick with them as Detective Jack Ryder works two murder cases and tries to protect his recent love interest, a pop singer … More Slip Out The Back Jack, by Willow Rose [Review]

A captivating tale of horror, ghosts, and Chinese mysticism This beautifully-written story of ghosts, supernatural monsters, and Chinese mysticism drew me in from the beginning because of Junie, the engaging heroine. Junie is searching to find her identity. She lacks self-confidence, is socially awkward, and has not made her parents proud – yet. She is … More The Geomancer’s Apprentice, by Yin Leong [review]
